Stages of a Painting
I'm Here - Abby Rose
Every painting begins with a pencil sketch on paper, based on a reference photo. The drawing is transferred to a toned canvas and outlined in paint. Starting with eyes, thin layers of paint, in muted colors, are applied to the face. Small amounts of hair begin framing the face. Thin layers of color start establishing areas of background variations. Facial features, skin tone and hair are developed in several layers while also building up clothes and background with thicker paint. Darks become darker and lights become lighter as richness of color emerges, atmosphere, purpose, emotion and a visual story are created. The reference photo is always on the easel for constant checks of accuracy.
I am determined to capture a likeness and personality.
